| Our mission is to provide prescription drug assistance to eligible individuals and families in Union, Anson and Chesterfield counties.
A 1998 study showed that residents were making repeated visits to the emergency room for uncontrolled medical conditions that could be controlled by regular maintenance medications if the patient could afford them. HealthQuest was created to address these uncovered prescription needs and to keep residents out of the hospital unnecessarily. According to the U.S. Census, thousands of residents in our three-county service area do not have any health insurance. The U.S. Census reported in 2004 that 45.8 million U.S. residents lacked health insurance for the entire year. Approximately 1.3 million of those uninsured Americans lived in North Carolina. In addition, many health insurance plans do not provide prescription coverage, leaving their customers still unable to pay for their maintenance medications. FamiliesUSA predicts that by the year 2010, prescription costs will soar an additional 72 percent.
