Q: What is HealthQuest? A: HealthQuest is a non-profit organization that provides prescription maintenance medicines to people who cannot afford them and who do not have prescription insurance.
Q: Who can receive services? A: Adults in Union, Anson, Stanly, Lancaster and Chesterfield counties with no prescription coverage are eligible. In addition, household income must be less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
Q: Can I apply if I work but don't have prescription insurance? A: Absolutely. Many of our clients work for companies that do not provide prescription insurance, and the individuals cannot afford private prescription insurance.
Q: Do you have to be a senior citizen? A: No. We accept clients who are 18 or older. In fact, more than 40 percent of our clients are younger than 65. HealthQuest also accepts children and adolescents who are denied Medicaid and North Carolina HealthChoice, upon eligibility requirements.
Q: What does HealthQuest cost? A: All prescriptions distributed through HealthQuest are free to clients, who pay only a $15 administrative fee monthly. The average HealthQuest client's prescriptions have a monthly retail value of $527.
Q: How many prescriptions can a client receive? A: HealthQuest fills up to six prescriptions a month for each client, and clients receive an average of 4.2 free prescriptions each month. For clients with more than six prescriptions, HealthQuest fills the most significant or most expensive prescriptions.
Q: How many doses does a client receive at one time? A: Most prescriptions are a 30-day supply, and clients come by the office one Monday evening each month to pick up the next month's medications.
Q: Why are all prescriptions not provided? A: Medications are acquired from local physicians and pharmaceutical companies who provide samples. HealthQuest also accesses the patient assistance programs of pharmaceutical companies whose policy is to assist uninsured and underinsured patients. Medications not available through these donors must be purchased by HealthQuest. Because HealthQuest is funded by grants and contributions from businesses and individuals, funding does not stretch to provide all maintenance medications to clients.

"I think HealthQuest is heaven-sent. There are some medications I'd have to do without if it wasn't for HealthQuest."
Larry Jackson Pageland
"HealthQuest is a lifesaver. I didn't think we'd get help. We were getting our medicines the best we could. But we were letting a lot of stuff go we just went without."
Johnny Winburn Patrick, SC
